Caldwell and Honnold on their Fitz Roy Traverse

Caldwell and Honnold on their Fitz Roy Traverse

Planet Mountain snagged an interview with Tommy Caldwell and Alex Honnold after their completion of the Fitz Roy Traverse in Patagonia.  While neither climbers have much experience with Alpine style, they were able to quickly hammer out this epic ridge line in 5 days with some help from other climbers and some luck with the weather.

Gov’t Shutdown Closes National Parks and the Climbing Within

Gov’t Shutdown Closes National Parks and the Climbing Within

Due to Congress’s inability to pass a spending bill, the US Government has shut down.  As a part of this all National Parks are closed to visitors.  Head over to the Access Fund and let your congressmen know how you feel about the situation.  As you may have heard Chris Sharma has joined forces with Tommy Caldwell, Kevin Jorgeson, and Jonathan Siegrist, to try to tackle the Dawn Wall in Yosemite this Fall, so we need the parks back open!

Sport Climbing doesn’t make the cut for 2020 Olympics

Sport Climbing doesn’t make the cut for 2020 Olympics

The International Olympic Committee has voted, and Sport Climbing, Wakeboarding, Karate, Roller Sports, and Wushu did not make the cut.  Fans of Baseball/Softball, wrestling and squash will be happy to know that their sports have made it on to the next vote that will take place in September.  I can’t say I’m too upset, but I do hope to see more live coverage of Sport Climbing and Bouldering competitions, like LT11 has been bringing us this year.
